The City of Rolling Hills Estates is pleased to light up the season once again with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Holiday Parade of Lights on Saturday, December 7, 2019.
Now in its 22nd year, the annual Parade of Lights will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., as illuminated floats and festive participants make their way through Peninsula Center along Silver Spur Road, Deep Valley Drive and Norris Center Drive.
To showcase the unique character of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, community and civic groups, school and youth organizations, marching bands, drill teams, equestrian units, local businesses, and others are encouraged to take part in the parade.
Serving as this year’s Grand Marshal is Allison Compton– Sitting Volleyball Paralympian. Compton’s determination to compete at the Olympic level led to the formation of a women’s volleyball team for the 2004 Paralympics in Athens. Team USA took the bronze medal that same year, and has received medals in every Paralympics since. “I look forward to participating in this long-standing, local tradition and am grateful for serving as this year’s Grand Marshal, which provides an opportunity to raise further awareness of the Paralympics, and how, in a first for Los Angeles, the city will host the 2028 Paralympic Games”, Compton said of being invited to participate this year.
Also featured is our Community Grand Marshals Pam Barrett-Hill & Jim Hill, recently named 2019 Citizens of the Year by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. New this year is our Hometown Marshal Dale Allen, a dedicated and committed member of the Rolling Hills Estates equestrian community.
Awards will be given for categories such as: Musical Sweepstakes, Equestrian Sweepstakes, Best Commercial Float, best local entry and more. Judging is provided by the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association and a professional equestrian judge.
Free parking is available at the Town & Country Center, Promenade on the Peninsula, Peninsula Shopping Center and Peninsula High School.
This event is made possible by the tremendous community participation and local business sponsors: Malaga Bank as presenting sponsor and Promenade on the Peninsula, Peninsula Shopping Center, Bennett Landscape, Code Ninjas, El Pollo Inka, PV Transit, Rolling Hills Dental Group, and Starbucks.
