Palos Verdes Residents Enjoy Whale Watching!
Palos Verdes residents have the great advantage of watching whales right here from the peninsula. Whale watching is a popular event to this area since whales are migrating at this time down to Mexico, and pass right here off our coast. The Point Vicente Interpretive Center welcomes visitors to this premier whale watching site for viewing where volunteers keep daily count of their sightings starting on December 1st through April.
The annual “Whale of a Day” festival takes place this year on Saturday, March 10, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This fun event celebrates the migration of the Pacific Gray Whale from its summer feeding grounds in the Bering and Chuchki Seas in Alaska, to the winter breeding and calving grounds in Baja California. This event is free to the public and is sponsored by the City of Rancho Palos Verdes and the members of Los Serenos de Point Vicente. The event takes place on the main grounds of the Point Vicete Interpretice Center and includes fun activities for the children with face painting, children’s crafts, small children’s games, plus exhibits, crafts and food vendors.
